An exploration into depression and feelings of suicide inspired by the Van Gogh painting of the same name and a deliberate attempt on my part to be pretentious. The music is an exercise in dynamics and the only song I've ever written with a key change. It's also the longest and my favourite.
lyrics
In despair I sit alone
Head resting in my withered hands
Nothing will console me
Here I sit
On the threshold of eternity
The only sound I hear
The crackling in my fireplace
Quieter, less frequent
It fades into blackness
Here I sit
On the threshold of eternity
Nobody sees what's inside
A damaged floorboard, dirty walls
Once the flame goes out
Neither will I see myself
Here I sit
Trapped opposed to love and joy
A mind succumbed to apathy
Tomorrow will not come for me
Here I sit
On the threshold of eternity
Try to remember when I felt
Some simple kind of pleasure
A happy world cannot meet me
Here I sit
On the threshold of eternity
Lost appetite and cannot sleep
More time awake in life so bleak
If sleep will not come to me
...
Here I sit
On the threshold of eternity
Here I sit
Here I wait
Here I...
Here I...
Here I...
Here I...
Here I sit
Here I rest
Here I wait
Here I sit
Here I rest
Here I wait
Here I sit
Here I rest
Here I wait
Who can save me now?
And who can save me now?
And who can save me now?
So here I sit
On the threshold of eternity
And who can save me now?
Who can save me now?
Who can save me now?
'Cause here I sit
On the threshold of eternity
